About + FAQ

Hey, a Certified Adult™ and Taiwanese American here, with too much free time on her hands. I’m a heavy manga reader who decided to start translating to practice my rusty Chinese reading skills.

This is a “just-for-fun” exercise, so I will not accept any questions regarding update schedules/finishing the translation. I will try to update regularly and finish what I started, but I make no guarantees.

Regardless, definitely feel free to point out any mistakes (including translation errors) I’ve made too, no matter how minor. I’m doing everything myself, and I’m probably going to miss things.

I don’t earn any money from this site, and I actually encourage everyone to use adblock (eg. uBlock Origin) if you’re seeing ads here, since none of them are mine. I also don’t accept any donations. If you have the money, please support the author! (JJWXC guide here, Chang Pei guide here, Myrics guide here.)

P.S. For those wondering, I basically operate on Taiwan-time now (UTC+8), but my upload schedule is all over the place.

FAQ

Why shrimp chips?

Because I was really craving shrimp chips when I made this blog.

And, for the record, I’m referring to Calbee’s shrimp chips, not the prawn crackers that come with Peking duck, though those are also delicious.

Why ‘half-assed’ translations?

Joke answer: Because ‘full-assed’ just sounds weird.

Serious answer: I prioritize speed over quality when I initially translate, so there might be times I misread and/or mistranslate something. (While I will go back and edit things when I notice something’s wrong, I know that 90% of people won’t go back and reread for any changes.) So the “half-assed” is just a casual reminder that my work isn’t gospel and that I probably fuck up a whole heck of a lot. Remember, folks, just because it reads well doesn’t mean it’s completely accurate!

How do I change the background?

I’m on a free wordpress plan, so I don’t have any plug-ins available for any of that fancy day/night mode switching that other websites have. I also have limited choice in font/background colors, which is why I can’t even mess with the contrast, sorry!

If you want a light theme, and you also have a wordpress account, you can click on the control panel in the lower-right and select “View post in Reader” to see posts in wordpress’s own (light-themed) reader instead of on my website. If you want a higher contrast dark theme, you can click on “View AMP version” in the upper wordpress bar.

Otherwise, if you’re on a browser which supports extensions, I’d recommend getting a reader-based extension, such as Clearly Reader, Helperbird, Postlight Reader, or Reader View, to help with accessibility options, such as background changes and font increases.

I also post EPUBs/PDFs of completely translated works on their table of contents pages, if you’d prefer that option. PDFs are always in light theme. And for EPUBs, I recommend Calibre for windows and Lithium or Librera Reader for android.

Can I retranslate into my native language?

While I don’t own the original work, so I technically have no say in this question since I’m also doing an illegal translation, I’d prefer not. I generally translate liberally for meaning, so any re-translation of that will inevitably lose even more of the original authorial intent.

As such, if you’re asking me, then the answer is a solid no.

Chinese is one of the most spoken languages in the world, so I’m sure you can find someone to help you translate it directly from Chinese.

I will no longer respond to questions regarding retranslations. Do not ask me about this anymore, thank you.

You translated (______) wrong! / You made an error in this line!

Thanks for telling me! I’ll fix it right away!

Can you add additional content warnings for (_______)?

Sure, just let me know what you need warnings for and which chapter(s) you think needs the warning, and I’ll get right on that. I’ll also try and apply that warning for future chapters.

If I don’t think I’ll be able to adequately identify when to apply that warning in the future, I’ll let you know that as well.

When is the next chapter coming out?

You can check the table of contents for status updates.

Also, while I don’t mind being asked politely about the status of a translation (especially if I haven’t updated in a while), any comments urging me to translate faster/complaining about my translation speed will be either ignored or outright deleted. I’m doing this for free, and for my own enjoyment. If you want speed, I suggest going to a machine.

Is there any way I can help get releases out faster?

If you’re referring to editing/proofreading, then no. They’re generally my favorite parts of the process and are never the reason releases are delayed. If you’re a translator wanting to take over translating, hit me up if you need a TLC and/or editor. I’d be willing to cede lead translator position to someone else, provided that they’re fluent in Chinese.

Otherwise, if you simply want to take over this project wholesale, go ahead. As long as you aren’t planning on MTLing, I’m fine with that. Just drop me a line so I know to stop, please.

Do you accept donations?

No, I don’t accept any donations, for a variety of reasons. Please support the author instead and buy the VIP chapters over on Jinjiang, Chang Pei, or Myrics.

Can I make a pdf/epub of your translations?

Yes, provided you don’t upload them on an aggregator. Sharing amongst other folks is fine.

However, do note that I will also be making pdfs/epubs when I’m done, and these will be fully (re-)edited, so if you want a “definitive” version of the text for offline reading, please wait for those! (I also sneakily update them every now and again, but only very minor updates, really.)

Your translations have been reposted!

(╯’□’)╯︵ ┻━┻ …………. (ヘ・_・)ヘ┳━┳

Honestly, though, there’s not much I can do, and I don’t want to waste time installing all kinds of anti-theft plugins either (which I’d need a custom domain name for anyway), so oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do go back and edit my earlier translations over time, though, so just be aware that the best/most accurate version of these translations won’t be found on aggregators.

Seriously, though, if you’re a human being and not a bot, don’t reupload my translations. I already provide nicely formatted EPUBs/PDFs for offline reading, so there’s really no need to reupload anywhere. Don’t give these corporations any more ad money.

Will you translate (_______) next?

While at first I kind of toyed with the idea of taking requests, ultimately, I’m too self-centered to get off my ass to translate anything other than what I’ve already chosen myself. Like, feel free to drop suggestions of things you think I might like, but the chances of my actually doing it are slim.

How can I learn Chinese?

Honestly, I’m probably the worst person to ask about this. Chinese was my first language, so I never had to “learn” it the way non-native speakers had to. Best advice I can give is to take actual classes instead of trying to self-teach.

I am the author/license holder and I’d like you to remove (_______).

Please send me a formal email via this contact page, just so I know you aren’t a troll. I’ll adhere to any DMCA or takedown requests from the author or the license holder.

I’ll also automatically remove my translations if any of the works I translated gets licensed in English.

How do I contact you?

Just leave a comment here and I’ll see it. You can also drop me a message over at NU (@emiliers) or MU (@Suxinn) if you want to speak in private. And if you want something slightly more formal, you can also shoot me an email via this contact page.

Do not ask me to join any for-profit translation groups. I do not have patreon/kofi for a reason.

You can also check my carrd for my other socials, but fair warning, they aren’t fandom based.

  2. Hi there I was wondering if you could be interested in picking up the Dreams Continent Series. Book 1 Holy Institution is completely translated and the translator had no interest in doing the other 4 books. You dont have to translate all 4 books . I am asking if you could at least translate one of them. I have contacted KKTRANSLATES and Exiled Rebels about this and KK said they will consider it. Here is the link for the second book if you are interested, sorry but i can’t find the other books for now.http://www.jjwxc.net/onebook.php?novelid=1047881

    1. Hi, I actually have my next few projects plotted out already, so I’m currently not taking any requests. Once I finish with those, I might take a look, but for now, no, sorry!

      1. No worries. I though that you haven’t planned any next novels yet so I took a chance to ask. Thank you for your response

  3. Thank you so much for the plan to make this into an epub and pdf st the end. I prefer to read on my kindle to save my eyes from glare.

I think I’ll stop now after 2 chapters to wait for the whole ebook. Then I can binge it all at once.

    1. As mentioned at the top of this page, I’m on a free wordpress plan, so there’s no way to change the background, sorry!

Since you also have a wordpress account, you could always click on the little control panel in the lower right hand corner and select “view post in reader” if you want a light theme!

There’s also the option of downloading some reader-based extensions, such as Reader View, Mercury Reader, Clearly, etc. for your browser!

    1. Hi, if you read the FAQ, you’d know that I’m not comfortable with retranslations of my work, though it’s also not as if I own the original myself, so I technically don’t have any say over this. Please do not ask me again about retranslations.
